No Available Slots for Passport Appointment
There is a good number of Filipinos who have been clamoring to bring back the walk-in process in renewing or applying for a passport in the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA). This is brought upon by the difficulty in securing online appointment that is currently being experience by individuals who wants to renew or apply for a passport since last year.
Yet, when you check on Facebook, there are travel agencies and agents peddling their “passport appointment” services. In exchange for a service fee of two thousand pesos to eight thousand pesos, these travel agents can allegedly secure you an appointment schedule fast, without hassle.
But, if an ordinary Filipino will get online on the official passport appointment website www.passport.gov.ph, almost all days are Full, no more open and available slots in most branches.
The rising anger of Filipinos for the apparent passport scheduling issue has led DFA Secretary Cayetano to open additional slots until June in all DFA branches, as well as put forth a mobile passport program to reach more Filipinos. But despite these efforts, the demand for appointment slots are ever increasing while the available slots are getting scarce.
Some have lamented, why not bring back the walk-in applications in consideration for those who have been watching for a slot to open-up to no avail, and also for those Filipinos who have no access to internet and thus can’t make a passport appointment online. At the end of the day, only DFA will be able to answer and address this issue on passport scheduling.
