The G in Sheffield is one of the older G casinos out there, located fairly centrally with a huge car park. It seems to be located right next to a roller skating rink – who knew such things still existed?
Once you’re inside it’s once again familiar territory, although starting to look just a little careworn by comparison with some of the brand new shiny G casinos I’ve visited of late. There’s another of these arcade type units in the reception area, and just inside the casino proper is a “big wheel” type of affair, which looks to be linked to some horrendous promotion along the lines of spinning a wheel to get a prize. Having said that, whenever there’s a chance to get something free out of a casino you might as well take it, they certainly take no prisoners when it comes to the tables and slots.
I visited early in the day, and it looked like some sort of recruitment or training day, with squadrons of spotty young characters wandering about. There also seemed to be an infestation of polo shirts among the staff working the tables, which seemed at odds with the quality proposition that G seem to be aiming for. No doubt a thousand focus groups were involved.
It must be tough, having been the big shiny new toy for the people of Sheffield, only for the new Genting to turn the place into a smelly old sock, but it’s still a quality operation and worth a visit. At least the car park here, as opposed to the Genting, won’t make your head spin ….
